About the Series:

Stig Dalström, artist, botanist, author and noted orchid curator joins filmmaker, Darryl Saffer, on a Wild Orchid hunt for the Ghost Orchid in the Fakahatchee Strand Reserve in southwest Florida in the pilot episode of this important nature series. With their popularity rising, untold numbers of orchids are sold daily by sources ranging from reputable home garden centers to illegal smugglers.The new series will promote increased awareness about the environmental importance of protecting the world's wild orchids.

Susan Orlean's novel, The Orchid Thief made the best seller list and inspired the film, Adaptation. The real story of this immensely diverse plant species is only found in the remote regions of our planet. Future episodes will explore unique terrains from Central and South America to Bhutan.

About the Creators:

Stig Dalström, The Wild Orchid Man

Artist, botanist, author, and the noted curator of the Orchid Identification Center at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, Stig Dalström is recognized worldwide as an orchid expert.

His lectures and field work have taken him from his Florida home to Bolivia, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Thailand, his native Sweden, and recently, Bhutan.

Darryl Saffer, Documentary Filmmaker

Naturalist, composer, editor and principal of Studio Ray Productions in Sarasota, Florida, Darryl Saffer's documentaries have focused on nature, wildlife, and emerging critical environmental issues.

His films include: Amorphous titanum at Selby Gardens, Not Long Ago,Tanner's Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, Condemned, and Orca to name a few.
